O.K., I'm shooting a trailer for one of my scripts.
I will be shooting around the first week of Oct. (I think).
I'm in Northern California, the Sacramento area.
We'll be spending a weekend in the mountains.
Food, but no money, and it will be hard work.
We'll be shooting long hours, as there are day and night scenes, so we'll shoot for 8 or so hours in daylight, take a dinner break, then shoot for 4-6 more hours, so consider yourself warned!
I figured this was a long shot, but if anyone is interested, it should be quite an experience.
I try to make sure crew members actually learn, not just carrying stuff around without knowing why.
You can contact me here, or send me an email.

Hey, I know you're joking, but I may take you up on it!
I kind of did this in my film, Lost Tribes.
My DP happened to be taking a vacation in China, and I though, what a shame, it's such a great location. I wonder if there's any way to take advantage of this.
So I came up with a sight gag.

So, just coincidentally, an actor flaked on me, and I had to have Larry play the part of a deliveryman (UPS-like guy), early into the movie.
So I wrote him into another scene, where he walks up to one of the regular characters, with his brown UPS shirt, and a box, and asks where Lincoln street is.
They guys points & says "take that street until you can't go any further, then you'll hit Lincoln street.
So the rest of the movie happens (like 40 minutes or so), it ends, the credits roll, then after the credits, I have Larry, wearing the same clothes, carrying the same box, wandering around looking confused, outside the Forbidden City in China, (a huge Chairman Mao poster in the background with tons of Chinese tourists) asking people where Lincoln street is.

O.K., it's not the funniest thing in the world, but people do ask how I did that on my budget!
So I'll have to think of how to squeeze in that Austrailian shot. Is the offer serious?

Yeah ot's serious! (I mean it was a joke at first - but if it fits into your film why not?) -- depends what you want though too - that red dust outback stuff would be a bit hard - I could get to country like that with in about 10 hours or so - but unfortunatley the cost would be the problem for me there - I am going to my parents in the tropical north in about 5 weeks - there's also plenty of rainforest not far from where I live to -- so what did you have in mind?

    (Matt Pacini responds):
Wow, the rainforest stuff would be perfect!
I'm serious, it fits perfectly into my film.
I'll have to brainstorm this a little.
I'm not sure how, or what I would do at this point, or how involved you really want to get.
I suggest we swap tapes of our movies to judge each others ability first, so I will be able to tailer my instructions around your capabilites, equipment, as well as figure out how much you're willing to be abused!

    Anyway, let's communicate directly.
    Here's my email:

    This is cool!
Hey, I know it's a lot of work, (especially while you're editing) but I keep checking your website for frame grabs of your film in progress, but not finding any.
Have you done the telecine yet?
I'd love to see the stuff.
I'm sure others here are interested as well.
What a killer location you have at your disposal!

    Thanks,
    Matt Pacini

Interestingly enough Matt, I to am living in China right now and among other things I'll be shooting a short involving a character being lost. Was that gag in Lost Tribes?
I bought it just before I came over and Wasn't able to watch more than about half an hour.
If ya need anything like a follow up gag lemme know. Wow international super8 filmmaking!

    (Matt Pacini resonds):
Yeah, but obviously, you have to watch the whole movie! He shows up in the film twice, then at the end of the credits....

Hanthx, it looks like the shoot will be the second weekend in October.

It should be fun (and loads of work).
I'm rigging an area in the woods with lights for night scenes.
It should be interesting (and troublesome).

Okay first of all lets just clear a few things up: north=tropical, south=cold -- it's a little known fact but you're actually the ones who are upside down - the whole universe is actually tilted on our perspective ;-)

Anyway - I know you wanted a direct email Matt but I wanted to kill two birds with one stone here - the film is getting telecined at the moment - or will be next week (by the way it's costing me $165 per hour Australian for a Rank Cintel - that's about $85 US (thought I'd just make you all jealous!) -- anyway I won't get the footage back for for probably about ten days - but will put some still from the film up on the page as soon as I can after that - which would be within just a few days I'd say --- I won't really be able to send you anything till it's done though Matt (ie edited) but I think from what I saw on my editor/viewer it'll be comprable with Lost Tribes - shooting stuff up north would be fun, but I'd prefer to do something fairly uninvolved just because I'm mainly there for a holiday and seeing family etc - and would probably only be able to give a day or so at the most to it - but I'd shoot it with my 4008 with the 25fps synch unit - I'd take the tripod etc and basic gear but I think lights etc would be too much - but if it's out doors it shouldn't really matter -- so anyway lets email each other directly now and see what you have in mind
